High Voltage, fitness guru, is changing the lives of Mother Cabrini High School girls with their commitment to healthy living. The Energy Up Program at Mother Cabrini High School has been so successful that the NBC Today Show featured a monthly segment about the program throughout the 2003-2004 school year. As part of the series Anchorwoman Katie Couric visited Mother Cabrini High School, interviewed the students and participated in an Energy Up session.

Membership in the Program

Those who join the program commit to changing their life-styles. They learn to adopt healthy habits including eating the right foods, exercising daily, maintaining proper weight and forming good self-esteem. The Energy Up Program participants meet once a week from 3 to 5 p.m. During that time many activities take place. Participants weigh in; review food journals; listen to a wellness lesson; exercise for one hour under the direction of fitness guru High Voltage; learn about cooking and taste healthy foods.

Voltage has been joined by Dr. Ileana Vargas-Rodriguez, class of 78 and Doctor Betsy Pfeffer, both Doctors from Columbia University Medical Center. The doctors are conducting a medical study to measure the results of student participation in the program, and they also offer nutritional advice to individual participants.

Program Has Great Results

Voltages program has five points: eat healthy food, exercise, drink water, say positive affirmations, and do something nice for someone else. Voltage really makes this program special because she truly cares about each of these young women. She has dedicated her life to helping them to live happier and healthier lives, and her sincere concern for the students inspires them to do their best.

Students have reported many positive results. In addition to losing weight, students have more energy, greater self-esteem, and better study habits. The girls serve as a support system for one another, and Voltage's enthusiasm is a great incentive. Voltage has also built in a system of rewards for those who are faithful to the program. For example, students have been treated to a day at a Manhattan spa, taken out to eat, and been given special incentive gifts.

According to High Voltage, Mother Cabrini High School is the perfect place to host the Energy Up Program as everyone helps us to achieve our goals of helping the women to grow physically, emotionally, and spiritually. "I look forward to another year of working with the Cabrini staff and students to take the Energy Up Program to another level -- sharing these lifestyle changes with the parents and siblings of Energy Up participants."
